She has covered various sports for major publications around the globe. It was a long time writing about the sport for The Washington Post, including football, tennis, and basketball. Nichols, who earned two Emmy Awards during her nine-year time with ESPN and appeared on many of the network's most popular shows like NFL Countdown or SportsCenter, was transferred to ESPN in the year 2004. She was also one of the networks' Monday Night Football broadcasts as reporter on the sidelines. Her next move was CNN, and then Turner Sports. The first show she created and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired regularly on CNN as well as CNN International. More than a billion people watched the show across the globe. Nichols reported at TNT at the time, covering NBA broadcasts such as regular season games, playoffs or teams from the All-Star league. She has also worked for TBS reporting as an anchor covering baseball and golf coverage. CBS broadcasted the Final Four. It was the only occasion in the award's 42 year tradition that a woman has been included among the over 200 candidates.
